The Land
It always gets back to the thousand acres.
In 1807, an immigrant Scottish couple, the Reverend Daniel White and his wife Catherine Campbell White, took possession of a thousand acres of rich bottomland known as Riverton on the banks of the Lumber River. Their five children would become the first of many generations of descendents who would return to the land through war, through reconstruction, building a tradition of earnestness, of labor, of deep personal connection.
